Daddy Long Legs sires his first northern hemisphere winner
Montauk Daddy won a Belmont maiden special weight on Saturday
Taylor Made stallion Daddy Long Legs was represented by his first North American winner on Saturday when Montauk Daddy won a maiden special weight at Belmont.
Ridden by Jose Lezcano for trainer Linda Rice, Montauk Daddy shot to the front shortly after the start of the six-furlong turf race and prevailed by one and three-quarter lengths while racing Lasix-free.
The $160,000 OBS April Sale graduate races for Chris Fountoukis and McCourt Racing and was bred in Florida by Jennifer and Gillian Johnson out of the Old Fashioned mare Snow Fashion.
Daddy Longs Legs, a son of Scat Daddy, was a multiple stakes winner for the Coolmore partners and was originally trained by Aidan O'Brien. He made a winning debut at two before capturing the prestigious Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket.
He recorded his biggest victory in the UAE Derby at Meydan, which earned him a start in the Kentucky Derby.
Daddy Long Legs was leading first-season sire in Chile with five stakes winners and ten stakes horses from his initial crop of runners, which included the champion juvenile Fallen From Heaven, a Grade 1 winner on dirt and a Grade 2 winner on turf, and Grade 3-winning filly Atomicka.
His stood his first season in the northern hemisphere this year at Taylor Made in Kentucky, who offered him to US breeders at a $10,000 fee.
