Pontefract Placepot perm: Tom Segal with his bankers for Sunday's card

The card at Pontefract may not be of Royal Ascot quality, but it is very competitive nonetheless and cracking the Placepot is no easy task.

Having said that, I think there are some bankers that will make any perm less expensive starting with Lady Lavina in the juvenile maiden (3.45).

Her form at Chelmsford looks the best on offer and she should relish the stiff track.

The best race is the Listed fillies' contest (4.45) in which strong stayer Bartzella is going to be hard to pass. However, By Starlight was unlucky not to win a Haydock Group 3 last time and might be underestimated.

The final banker is Exminster in the mile Handicap (6.15). He showed improved form when winning at York last time and the 6lb rise should not be enough to stop him hitting the frame.

The other races are more tricky, but Didtheyleaveuoutto will relish the trip and ground in the 2m2f handicap (5.15). He has to go in along with Twilight Prince, who was unlucky not to win at Bath last time.

The 1m2f handicap (4.15) is extremely competitive, but El Picador travelled well over further last time and could improve again back in trip. Course specialist Highwaygrey is the other to put in the perm as he is on a good handicap mark now and could easily bounce back to form.

Unplugged stayed on well to win over shorter at this track on his debut for the Easterbys and there should be more to come from him in the 1m4f handicap (5.45). Topweight Fishable is back on a good mark and should be included too.
