The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Grand National day
BIG-RACE PLAY
Any Second Now (5.15 Aintree)
This nine-year-old has been compared to previous Grand National winner Papillon and third Seabass by trainer Ted Walsh and he enters this year's renewal of the Aintree spectacular as the joker in the pack. He was last seen winning over 2m at Navan in March and although he takes a bit step up in trip, he has previously shown that he possesses plenty of stamina, notably when winning the 2019 Kim Muir over 3m2f. His mark of 152 looks fair and although there's probably better value plays – Anibale Fly and Class Conti stand out – I like Any Second Now for win purposes.
DARK HORSE
On ratings, Pipesmoker has plenty to find with the likes of My Drogo and Ballyadam. However, I'm taken by his profile and feel he will improve a great deal for the step up in trip and better ground at Aintree. The four-race maiden wasn't beaten far behind stablemate Chantry House in a novice event last term, before taking the runner-up spot behind Sporting John. Those pieces of form have received big boosts this season and you can put a line through his latest effort when a bad mistake at the last cost him any chance.
