Take cautious approach to Thursday's Placepot perm at Goodwood

There is not an obvious banker race at Goodwood on Thursday, so the best play may be to keep the stakes low and the perm generous. That means two in the nine-runner first leg, with the quick Glamorous Anna a logical choice, backed up by Electric Ladyland.

Likely favourite Al Salt is a must in the second race, while Zabeel Champion, who won a high-class handicap last time, and Magical Morning are also included.

The Richmond looks to be between the top three in the betting and perming any two from three is a legitimate play. Preference is for Qaader and Yazaman, in the anticipation that Admiral Nelson will be inordinately popular.

English King is as close to a banker as is available on the card and he is backed up with a tentative nod for Subjectivist, who is improving and may get an easy lead.

There is no pace in the Nassau and that might work against Deirdre, who won a truly run renewal in 2019, but her form makes her too strong to resist. Nazeef is best equipped if it turns into a sprint and is the obvious back-up.

The nursery is difficult, but Running Back really caught the eye last time and is a confident selection, along with his more experienced stablemate Mark Of The Man.
