Newmarket Placepot: Paul Kealy offers his perm for day two of the July festival

The opening maiden at Newmarket (1.15) features 14 runners, but Sweeping boasts the best form by a long way on his Chesham fourth.

He ran really well on his debut before that so it was not a fluke, and the RPR he earned at Ascot (94) would have been good enough to win the last nine runnings of this. He is a banker for me.

King Frankel is a fairly strong fancy for the next (1.50), but it is a tough betting heat, so the unexposed Peter The Great – a course-and-distance winner last time – goes in too.

In the next (2.25), Flotus is worth a chance to prove her Albany running all wrong. Connections had been worried about deep ground despite her debut win and she is surely better than that.

Oscula might prove better suited to quicker ground too than when third to Sandrine and Hello You in the Albany and is the back-up.

Live Your Dream and Hyanna are joined by Hochfeld in the competitive fourth leg (3.00), while in the Falmouth Stakes (3.35) it makes sense to go with at least two as well.

Primo Bacio is the main fancy, but the market is top-heavy with three-year-olds, and Lady Bowthorpe, who was not seen to best effect when second at Ascot, can step up for the older generation if they fall short.

That just leaves a tricky 7f handicap (4.10) to contend, with the selections being Dulas, who ran well against ante-post Bunbury Cup favourite Ametist last time, and Aquaman, who might improve back on quick ground.
