Tom Segal with three bankers in a Sunday Ripon Placepot perm

Normally the handicaps on a card are the ones that need more than one horse in any perm but at Ripon I think some of them can be covered with just one choice.

To start with, course specialist Benadalid can race off a 4lb lower mark than when winning this particular handicap (3.40) last year, while Sandbeck, who looked good on her reappearance at Nottingham and is open to plenty more improvement, looks banker material in the fillies' handicap (4.10).

Franz and Adjuvant stand out in the 1m2f three-year-old handicap (3.10) but preference is for the former, whose prominent running style might be better suited to this track.

The two maidens could be straightforward as well but it's always risky to bank on unraced horses. Ti Amo Sempre should go well on her debut in the two-year-old race (2.40), but it's safer to add Gulmarg, who has already had a run.

The two fillies who stand out in the fillies' maiden (4.40) both haven't seen a racetrack. Firebolt and Holocene are beautifully bred and those who have run haven't shown much at all.

The opening apprentice handicap (2.10) will be the hardest race to get through but High Security and Refuge come here in good form and it will be surprising if one of them doesn't hit the frame.
