Delvino (2.40 Down Royal)

It was hoped by connections of Delvino she would make her mark at Graded level over hurdles last season after a deeply impressive maiden victory at Naas in which she defeated smart mares Castra Vetera, Royal Illusion and Roseys Hollow. She never quite kicked on from that in subsequent runs but showed much more gusto on her first start for trainer Mark McCrory on her seasonal return in December. Delvino jumped well and travelled powerfully for a long way on what was her chasing debut there before fading over the 2m3f trip to finish fourth to the gifted Capodanno. The drop back to 2m won't inconvenience her and she can prove better than her opening mark of 125 over fences in this rated novice chase.
