The Placepot: two bankers to help you pinch a part of the Newbury pot

Three novice races make up the first half of the Newbury Placepot, but they might not all be straightforward.

I like the chances of reversing Newmarket form with surprise winner Bethersden Boy in the opener (1.15). Sovereign Prince missed the kick and ran green, and now has a 6lb pull.

, who showed plenty at a price here on his debut, is the second selection.

and Seattle Rock are the clear form fillies in the next (1.45) and should dominate going down in class, with preference for the former, who has fewer miles on the clock.

The next (2.20) is tricky as the form fillies haven't shown anything special. That said, is worth forgiving her latest run in a bog and her trainer is starting to show signs of hitting the midsummer form for which he's renowned.

The well-bred is more of a guess, but she goes in anyway.

I like the chances of in the next (2.55), but only seven go, so I'd better have some back-up. I can find reasons to take on the front two, though, so gets the nod to improve on her fine recent effort at Newbury.

Course winner has run some fine races in defeat this season and is my banker for leg five (3.30), while in the last should be on the premises.

There are 14 runners, though, so I'll add , who showed plenty when fifth in a good maiden at odds off 150-1 on his return, and doesn't look badly treated off 69.
