Salisbury placepot tips: Tom Segal gives his perm for a classy Sunday card

The opening handicap for apprentice jockeys (2.08) at Salisbury looks weak and Queen Sarabi, who took a big step forward at Brighton last time, should have little trouble hitting the frame.

Dual course winner Beyond Equal has never won at 5f but has the pace to cope and looks sure to go well in the Yew Tree Inn Handicap (2.38). Throw in Kool Moe Dee as well because he hated the heavy ground last time, but ran well in a good race at York previously.

The Byerley Stud Peter & Virginia Walwyn Memorial Novice Stakes (3.08) is full of well-bred newcomers from top yards and the market will be the best guide. However, experience counts for a lot so Marsh Benham, who has shaped modestly in two starts so far, can hit the frame.

Of the debutants it could be worth including the Ralph Beckett-trained Cardinal Rouge as the trainer appears to have a good bunch of two-year-olds this season.

There probably has not been an unluckier horse in training than Khaadem. Almost every time he has run the heavens have opened and the only time he had the fast ground he craves, he ran away with the Stewards' Cup.

With the weather set fair at Salisbury, he is going to get his conditions in the Listed Cathedral Stakes (3.38) and should get his career back on track.

In the David & Sandra Wedding Anniversary Fillies' Handicap (4.08), Kindred Spirit will appreciate the step up to 7f and should go in any perm after her unlucky defeat at Windsor recently. However, she has not run on fast ground, so it is safest to put in Cirrus as well.

The fillies' novice (4.38), which makes up the last leg of the Placepot, should go to Deep Snow.
