Newbury Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway gave a winning perm at Chepstow on Monday

There are lots of competitive races at Newbury and the Placepot makes plenty of appeal.

The 2m4½f novice hurdle (12.45) kicks off the card and Nicky Henderson, whose stable was in flying form at Kempton on Saturday, could hold the answer with Tweed Skirt. She jumped well when making all at Ascot last time and Henderson won this race in 2020.

I was impressed by the way Hecouldbetheone won on his hurdles debut at Fontwell and he looks one of the bets of the day. Make him another banker in the 2m½f novice hurdle (1.15).

Only five are declared in the 2m½f novice handicap chase (1.50) and let’s hope they all run so two places are available. The consistent Goa Lil and Amarillo Sky make most appeal.

Fine Casting has sound claims in the 2m½f handicap hurdle (2.25) and must go in. However, there are a few dangers and the hat-trick seeking Chanceux is the insurance.

The 2m7½f handicap chase (3.00) is wide open. Landofsmiles has generally been consistent, bar a poor run last time, and must be included. Keep Wondering looks the obvious alternative.

Last month’s course-and-distance winner Gran Luna is the obvious choice in the 2m½f mares’ handicap hurdle (3.30), again for Henderson. It’s also worth including Miss Heritage.
