Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's four meetings

Thursday selections from Newcastle, Southwell, Wetherby and Gowran Park

Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Newcastle

7.00: Blazing Hot

Spotlight verdict
Only seven runners but most of them are of interest. Porfin will appreciate both the return to sprinting and Class 6 company and is greatly respected, while Portelet Bay is another for whom the return to this grade will be beneficial. BLAZING HOT is 2-2 over this trip since joining Grant Tuer though and he did well to win over C&D last time having come from an awkward position 1f out.
Paul Smith

Southwell

2.25: Zarzyni

Spotlight verdict
Topweight ZARZYNI has solid claims back up in distance and is taken to record his second win since joining David Barron. Lightly raced Tommy De Vito is feared most, ahead of the Mick Appleby-trained duo Mohareb and Nigel Nott.
Steve Boow

Naps table: daily tipping selections from national newspaper experts

Wetherby

3.45: Spot On Soph

Spotlight verdict
This is a rise in class for SPOT ON SOPH but she patently failed to stay 3m1f last time and looks well handicapped. Wheesht and Maid O'Malley have claims on their recent seconds but Marta Des Mottes could be the danger, as her hurdle form reads well and she was jumping soundly until unseating mid-race on her chase debut at Newcastle.
Alistair Jones

Gowran Park

1.35: Sams Choice

Spotlight verdict
The only bumper winner in the field, SAM'S CHOICE also holds the best piece of hurdles form on his second in a similar race at Punchestown. He gets the vote, ahead of stablemate Monkstreet, Glengouly and Highlander Casseul.
Alan Hewison
