Carlisle Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with his perm for Thursday's jumps card

There aren't many runners across the first six races at Carlisle but that means there won't be many places on offer in the Placepot either and sometimes that leads to a bigger dividend.

The first two will be required in the opening 2m4f handicap hurdle (1.23) but I'll be disappointed if Bavington Bob can't win and he rates the banker of the afternoon.

Just two places will be on offer in the 2m novices' handicap chase (1.55) and the consistent Finisk River makes plenty of appeal. Put him in alongside likely favourite Gold Des Bois.

Eight runners are declared for the 2m1f novices' hurdle (2.30) and three places will be on offer if they all stand their ground. I'll go with Findthetime and clumsy last-time faller Malpas.

The winner will be needed in the 3m½f handicap chase (3.05) and Amalfi Doug is one of my bets of the day. He goes in along with in-form Speak Of The Devil and Quartz Du Rheu.

Division one of the 2m1f handicap hurdle (3.40) is wide open, so put in Strong Team and Steinkraus, while in the second division (4.15) Presentedwithwings and Dan Gun catch the eye.
