The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Wednesday
EYECATCHER
Maquisard (1.10 Newbury)
This opening handicap hurdle isn't the best contest for the grade and I think it concerns the two topweights, Ar Mest and Maquisard. My preference is for the latter at the prices, who will be making just his third start for trainer Chris Gordon. This former French-trained seven-year-old showed plenty of ability when with Gary Moore last season, which included a good ground victory at Huntingdon in March, and has been bang there in two starts for Gordon this term. His latest third-placed efforts looks good in this company and Harry Reed's claim should see him come out on top.
DARK HORSE
Tanit River(2.50 Newbury)
Winner of six of 26 career starts, this Tim Vaughan-trained runner often comes alive in the early part of the calendar year having struck in March (2015), March (2016), January (2017) and February (2018) in the last four years. He looks to have been primed to strike today, goes well fresh and is fitted with first-time cheekpieces. He's also just 3lb higher than when last successful at Sandown. Double-figure forecasts look to provide plenty of value.
