The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Thursday

BANKER

Shareef Star (7.00 Chelmsford)

An extremely well-bred son of Sea The Stars who hasn't gone far in repaying a whopping purchase price of £700,000 just yet, but hopefully he can enter the winner's enclosure for the first time on his fifth effort. He got his racing career off to a slow start last year but progressed after each run and looked a winner-in-waiting when runner-up over a mile at Leicester in June. The winner that day is now rated 90 and consequently it was disappointing to see Shareef Star beaten on handicap debut and seasonal reappearance off a mark of 81. He was well punted that day but had no luck in running and he is sure to come on for the run. I'd be disappointed if he didn't win today.

EYECATCHER

Elarqam (4.10 Newmarket)

Mark Johnston's Frankel colt looked a star in the making when winning both starts in 2017 but had a largely disappointing three-year-old campaign after finishing fourth in the 2,000 Guineas. He was sent off the short-priced favourite and was beaten comprehensively on each occasion and has subsequently undergone a wind operation. Johnston still thinks an awful lot of him and I wouldn't be surprised if he bounced back at a course he handles well.
