The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Friday

BANKER

(5.05 Sandown)

Sir Michael Stoute has started the turf Flat season in fine form and his last three runners have all won, including a couple of promising three-year-olds. The master trainer unleashes another from that age group here in the shape of Layaleena, who was highly tried as a juvenile after a cosy debut success at Newmarket. She was well supported on that occasion and the form of the race has worked out incredibly well with seven of the eight closest pursuers all scoring since. She didn't seem to run her race on her second start on the all-weather before finding Group 1 company too hot in the Fillies' Mile. She has been awarded a handicap mark of just 84 and I would be shocked if she wasn't at least a stone higher come the end of the year. The best bet of the day by far at the forecast price of 8-1.

EYECATCHER

Fighting Temeraire (2.15 Doncaster)

This 7f handicap isn't the strongest for the grade and presents a good opportunity for the well-handicapped Fighting Temeraire to regain the winning thread. Dean Ivory six-year-old was rated as high as 93 in August 2017 and although he hasn't been in the easiest to train (just seven starts since), he must be capable of going close now dropped to his ideal trip off a mark of just 61. Granted, he has only beaten 13 out of 59 rivals in those seven starts, but he showed a sign of revival on his last outing at Nottingham when his stamina ebbed away late over 1m½f, and a further 2lb drop in the weights as well as a return to 7f can see him strike.
