An expensive Mastercraftsman colt owned by China Horse Club, Takumi hinted at promise on his three starts as a juvenile but was clearly a long-term project as he was very green and campaigned over an inadequate mile. Those three runs earned him a low handicap mark of 73 and following strong market support, Takumi duly capitalised on his debut in the sphere with a ready success at Goodwood. He was caught in a pocket for a lot longer than ideal in that contest but really quickened up when a gap appeared and won more comfortably than the half-a-length margin suggests. Based on that effort he is still well treated despite a 6lb rise and can get a nice lead into this race from pacesetter Sameem.
