Penalty should be no obstruction to another victory for War Department

Newmarket: David Milnes

Frederickbarbarosa (2.45 Salisbury, nap)

Ran a decent first race when a close seventh over 7f at Yarmouth last month when in need of the experience. The John Gosden-trained youngster has since worked nicely on the Al Bahathri.

Others to follow
Nottingham: 1.30 True Hero, 2.00 Ambling, 2.30 Ya Hala, 3.05 Islay Mist, 3.35 Syrian Pearl, 4.10 Angelina d'Or, 4.40 Nibras Galaxy, 5.15 Nibras Again.
Salisbury: 1.40 Avenue Foch, 2.10 Babbo's Boy, 3.15 Jahbath, 3.50 Autumn Splendour, 4.55 Hart Stopper.
Newcastle: 5.30 Melinoe, 6.30 Madam Devious, 7.00 Improve, 7.30 Eternal Destiny, 8.00 Ocean Temptress.

North: Colin Russell

War Department (6.00 Newcastle, nap)

Back to form when winning over course-and-distance last Friday, and though he has a stiffer task with his penalty, the five-year-old is fancied to follow up on a track that suits him so well.

Others to follow
Bangor: 2.55 The Herds Garden, 3.25 Val Mome, 4.00 Ofcourseiwill, 4.30 Quids In, 5.05 Grow Nasa Grow.
Newcastle: 5.30 Mambo Dancer, 6.30 Go Roo, 7.30 Lucky Lodge, 8.00 Supaulette, 8.30 Star Cracker.
Nottingham: 1.30 Exalted Angel, 2.00 Vivid Diamond, 2.30 Eesha Lovely, 3.05 Mark's Choice, 3.35 Stewardess, 4.10 Music Seeker, 4.40 New Society, 5.15 Tallinski.
Salisbury: 4.20 Mujassam, 4.55 Summerghand.

Lambourn: James Burn

Ustath (1.30 Nottingham, nap)

Juvenile has a nice pedigree and has posted some solid form, a repeat of which must put him in the picture, while his in-form trainer Owen Burrows' decent strike-rate at this venue is another plus.

Others to follow
Bangor: 2.20 Skin Deep, 3.25 Mythical Prince.
Nottingham: 2.00 Tasman Sea, 2.30 Dorah, 3.05 Dark Shadow, 3.35 Belated Breath, 4.10 Gravina, 4.40 Fitzwilly, 5.15 Captain Lars.
Salisbury: 2.10 Escape The Rain, 2.45 Nassam, 3.50 Cloak And Dagger, 4.55 Louie De Palma, 5.25 Three Little Birds.

West Country: Tim Mitchell

Beyond Equal (4.20 Salisbury, nap)

Turning into a smart handicapper this season and the small rise for his latest Ffos Las success should not be enough to anchor this progressive course-and-distance winner.

Others to follow
Bangor: 2.55 Ballyantics, 3.25 Jacbequick, 5.05 Code Of Law.
Newcastle: 8.30 Compton Abbey.
Salisbury: 2.45 Hawridge Storm, 3.15 Denis The Diva.

Racing Post Ratings: Simon Turner

Captain Lars (5.15 Nottingham)

Admirable veteran who has gone from strength to strength this year for Archie Watson. He is without a penalty for last week's Goodwood win and can make it 11 wins for the year.

Topspeed: Dave Edwards

Equimou (5.25 Salisbury)

Had smart form earlier in the season but below that level since and could take advantage of a declining handicap mark.

Longshot: Olly Eden

Carnwennan (4.40 Nottingham)

Displayed only minor promise to date, but is very lightly raced and ran well last time out on handicap debut in soft conditions. It would be disappointing if Charlie Fellowes's gelding didn't have further improvement in him, and can make his presence felt with the trip and track to suit.

Ireland: Tony O'Hehir

Bercasa (4.15 Cork)

The daughter of Casamento has shown signs of ability on a few occasions, most recently when finishing well for fourth at Gowran Park 11 days ago. She can prove the value in today's handicap over 1m½f and gets the vote to score for Tom Mullins and Niall McCullagh.
