Using the Racing Post's unrivalled bank of stats, we pick out three horses to back tonight based on trainer form, RPRs and, tonight's wild card, first-time cheekpieces . . .

Trainer form

Making History
5.05 Nottingham
Angle: Saeed Bin Suroor has won with nine of his last 19 runners at Nottingham.

Whilst it is difficult to know what to expect from two-year-olds at this time of year, it is noteworthy that Making History is the only runner of Saeed Bin Suroor's to grace Nottingham tonight.

The Godolphin trainer has a 47 per cent strike-rate with his last 19 runners at the course and it is particularly encouraging both of his juvenile runners at Newmarket's Craven meeting ran well to hit the places.

Bin Suroor has also won with five of his last seven two-year-old newcomers at Nottingham, an exceptional record.

Ratings

Contingency Fee
7.20 Brighton
Angle: Recent winner a couple of pounds clear on RPRs

Phil McEntee watched Contingency Fee perform superbly at Southwell on Wednesday for a clearcut win and appears to have a fine chance of viewing a similar outcome in the classified stakes at Brighton.

The four-year-old's only other win came at the Sussex course over course and distance, and he is a couple of pounds clear of his rivals on Racing Post Ratings for today's race.

Wild card

Heatherdown
7.05 Nottingham
Angle: Ian Williams has a 23 per cent strike-rate with runners wearing first-time cheekpieces.

Headgear can sometimes make all the difference. Ian Williams will be hoping that rings true again when Heatherdown runs in first-time cheekpieces at Nottingham this evening, with Williams boasting a more than useful 23 per cent strike-rate when employing such tactics.

The three-year-old never really got involved on his first start for the trainer at Kempton last month, but he had being going the right way for Michael Bell previously and the new headgear could just sharpen him up over this new trip of 1m2f.
