Woffinden set to secure third world crown in Torun
World champion Jason Doyle can end the season on a high
Torun Grand Prix of Poland
BT Sport 3, 6pm Saturday
Tai Woffinden heads to the final grand prix of the season with a commanding ten-point advantage over home hero Bartosz Zmarzlik as he bids to seal his third world title on Saturday evening.
The Briton should be happy that the GP campaign concludes in Torun, a high-speed racing circuit that provides several racing lines and overtaking opportunities, as gating has been a problem for him in the second half of the season. He should go well enough to secure a deserved success.
Zmarzlik is in scintillating form both domestically and on the world stage, and rightly heads the market for this finale, where he will have 15,000 passionate Polish fans behind him.
The talented 23-year-old has outstanding claims but is priced accordingly and a better-value alternative could be this season’s late bloomer Jason Doyle.
The Australian star's hopes of retaining the world crown diminished with a poor start to the season but Doyle has finished second in the last two events, bagging 33 points in the process, and clearly has his bike in top order.
Victory in the prestigious Golden Helmet event last Sunday highlighted his rich vein of form and his confidence will be sky high at his home track in the Polish Ekstraliga.
Doyle will be determined to get a GP win in what has been a disappointing season overall.
Zmarzlik's fellow Pole Maciej Janowski could be a danger if on song in his own backyard, but he has been unable to reach a final since the British GP in July and is difficult to catch right, while at a much bigger price Danish champion Niels Kristian-Iversen could be of interest having won this event in fine style in 2016.
