Golfwise Extra: Tanihara looks a threat to leader Wood in KLM Open

The story so far
A cracking final-day shootout is in the offing in the KLM Open at The Dutch, after Chris Wood nosed one shot ahead of three rivals with a third-round 65.

There have been some seriously low scores, with one of the golfers in joint-second, Hideto Tanihara, arriving there with a Saturday 63, while the other two, Ashun Wu and Jonathan Thomson, each had a 64 on one of the first two days.

Richard McEvoy fired a Saturday 64 to lie two shots off the lead, with Padraig Harrington and David Drysdale one shot further back on ten under.

Final-day advice
Wood is the bookmakers' clear favourite to hang on to his advantage but the title looks up for grabs for anyone who can summon up a Sunday birdie blitz.

With at least one of the front pack looking likely to shoot low, it's going to be hard for anyone outside the top ten to get in on the act.

Two low rounds in succession is always tough but Tanihara has barely put a foot wrong this week and looks a value alternative to Wood.

He seems to have the course figured out having birdied 11 of the 18 holes so far and his Saturday round included eight birdies and no bogeys.

He is a strong finisher with scores in the 60s in five of his last seven fourth rounds, and he also showed his bottle when reaching the semi-finals of the 2017 World Match Play, beating Jordan Spieth, Paul Casey and Ross Fisher before a one-hole defeat to Dustin Johnson.

Early leader Ashun Wu was swallowed up by the field after failing to break par but he remains in the hunt.

Thomas Detry is an intriguing contender just off the pace after a 67-63 blitz on Friday and Saturday, but he is still paying the price for an opening 74 that looks likely to prove costly. Each-way punters might find him worth an interest at 22-1, though.
