Magnificent seven great news for Liverpool punters
Top night in Europe for Premier League trio
Manchester City and Liverpool were victorious while Tottenham produced a stunning 1-1 draw at Real Madrid in what was a great Champions League night for the Premier League sides on Tuesday.
City beat Napoli 2-1 at the Etihad thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling - tipped at 8-1 by Racing Post Sport's James Milton - and Gabriel Jesus to take command of Group F with nine points from nine to virtually assure their place in the knockout stage.
Liverpool put seven past Slovenian minnows Maribor on their own patch with braces from Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino with Philippe Coutinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold getting the others.
The result in Slovenia was music to the ears of 21 William Hill customers who backed the Reds to win by the 7-0 scoreline although one twitchy punter will be cursing his decision to cash out in the 86th-minute with the score at 6-0 to collect £153.76 rather than the £810 he could have banked if he'd held on.
“You can completely understand why he cashed out as with just 4 minutes to go the bet was losing,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams. “But he must have been kicking himself when Alexander-Arnold netted in the last minute.”
Liverpool are top of Group E and just 1-16 to progress while Spurs are 1-100 to make it out of Group H after holding Real Madrid in the Bernabeu.
Tottenham took the lead through a Raphael Varane own goal before they were pegged back by a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty.
A Hugo Lloris second-half masterclass in the Spurs goal ensured the Londoners came home with a point.
