Tom Segal's play of the day at the Curragh

White Birch
3.10 Curragh

It's anyone's guess as to what Auguste Rodin will do in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (3.10) but after his embarrassing display in Dubai last time and the potential for the ground to soften, he has to be taken on at odds-on. Mashhoor could go well at a big price if he's left in front on his own but there look to be a couple of pacemakers in the line up as well, so this race should be strongly run. That will suit White Birch perfectly and I think he has an excellent chance of landing his first Group 1 success.

Many have labelled him as a soft-ground horse but don't forget how well he ran on quick ground in the Dante and Derby last season and he's come back looking better than ever. White Birch ran an amazing race to finish third at Epsom given how much ground he lost at the start and I think he's going to be at his very best here, while there is no guarantee that will be the case with Auguste Rodin.
