2pts winAll eyes focus on Zac Purton as he attempts to edge closer to rival Joao Moreira’s record for total wins in a Hong Kong season on this nine-race card at Happy Valley.

Purton, sitting on 164 victories, needs six wins to equal Moreira’s 170, registered in an unforgettable 2016-17 season, and he has only two racedays (20 races) left in which to pull it off.

At present, ever-confident Purton continues to dominate, and expectations are high that he can notch at least a treble from a full book of nine rides at this final Happy Valley meeting of the season.

He could also help John Moore reel in John Size in their battle for the trainers’ championship – Size leads 74-73 – when he partners the consistent Touch Of Luck, who makes a welcome return to turf in the 1m½f Maverick Star Handicap (1.15).

This talented son of Hard Spun coped admirably with the all-weather track on his last two starts, but he will almost certainly be more comfortable on a surface he relished when winning over one mile at Sha Tin three runs back.

Purton gets aboard promising stayer Tashidelek, also trained by Moore, in the most intriguing contest on the card, the Sweet Orange Handicap (3.15) over 1m1f, which features a clash with the Size-trained True Grit, who attempts to record his fifth win on the trot.

Drawn nicely in stall four, Tashidelek should be up on the pace all the way, while Moreira will need luck to slot in from gate nine on True Grit, who must also cope with a 6lb hike in the handicap.

Finally, Purton can rely on 'King of the Valley' Caspar Fownes to send him home a winner as they combine with Perfect Glory, who has plenty in his favour in the closing Sun Jewellery Handicap (3.50).

The Snitzel gelding was a course-and-distance winner three starts back but then found it impossible to win from wide draws on his next two outings. He is perfectly placed to return to winning ways.
