The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Wednesday
GOOD THING
Commander Han (4.35 York)
Kevin Ryan and Kevin Stott have been a team worth following the last fortnight with strike-rates of 29 and 24 per cent respectively and they can add to their tallies with Commander Han. The unexposed three-year-old makes his handicap debut on his fifth career start off what looks a reasonable mark of 92 and could prove a class above these rivals. He was too green to do himself justice on his two starts as a juvenile and duly improved with the year under his belt to score on his first start this year, beating an 87-rated rival by a comfortable seven lengths. Unsurprisingly he was well fancied when returning to the track last month but bumped into a subsequent scorer in Mootasadir. That form looks decent, though, and the return to turf on his handicap debut can produce further improvement.
EYECATCHER
Racehorse(8.25 Bath)
This Equiano filly was well fancied on her first start in a handicap last time out at Brighton but, following a slow break, was always on the back foot and did well to stay on for fifth in a race that didn't really pan out how connections would have hoped. She's been dropped 2lb in the weights for that and the step up to a mile will definitely help Hughie Morrison's charge. Theodore Ladd, who claims an extra 7lb off her back, is a good booking and although she has it all to do on the form book, she looks the type to take a huge step forward.
EACH-WAY PLAY
Classic Seniority (2.55 York)
This race is wide open and likely favourite, Orion's Bow, looks one to take on. Consequently I've sided with Marjorie Fife's Classic Seniority, who goes well over this course and distance, to try and steal a bit of each-way value at around the 16-1 mark. The six-year-old gelding, who won twice last year off a 1lb lower mark than this, looks to have been set this handicap as an early season target and ran with plenty of encouragement on his seasonal reappearance at the end of last month. He finished in sixth on that occasion – one position in front of the reopposing Teruntum Star, who is strangely a shorter price. Considering he often competes in huge-field handicaps, Classic Seniority has a good strike-rate of ten victories from 49 starts and can hopefully better that here.
