The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Saturday
BANKER
Daddys Poppit(2.50 Chelmsford)
Didn't show much in three starts for William Haggas and subsequently moved to Archie Watson's in the middle of summer. The daughter of Scat Daddy wasn't fancied at all on her first start for her new yard when drifting from 9-1 to 14-1 on course and after hanging off the bend and rider Hollie Doyle looked down while she was losing positions quickly, her chance looked gone. But she regained her balance in the straight and won pretty comfortably at the line. It wasn't a good race but she's just 6lb higher now and I'd be disappointed if she didn't follow up.
EYECATCHER
Sir Chauvelin (2.40 Chester)
I quite fancy Jim Goldie's Sir Chauvelin in this race, despite his usual hold-up tactics not suiting Chester down to the ground. Strangely for a six-year-old, he's looked better than ever this season and now rated a career-high 106. Following a decent seventh in the JLT Cup when given plenty to do, he surprised many when denying the well-backed Melting Dew at Goodwood and ran a nice race in the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup last time out when having no realistic chance of beating the winner, Stradivarius. This represents a drop down in class and he has run well here before.
IRISH ANGLE
Broome(4.25 Leopardstown)
Aidan O'Brien has won this Group 2 event five times in the last six years and actually trained the 1-2-3 last season, which suggests he uses this race as a stepping stone for some of his better younger horses. He has three horses entered again this season, headed by Broome, who looks the first string under Donnacha O'Brien. Having run green on debut behind smart stablemate Anthony Van Dyck, Broome stepped up on the run to score well at Galway on soft ground before losing all chance at the start of the Group 2 Acomb when missing the kick. The step back up in trip will suit.
