The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Tuesday afternoon

EYECATCHER

Star Shield (12.45 Newcastle)

This mile handicap looks wide open with little to separate top and bottomweight, but I will take a chance on David O'Meara's Star Shield. A relatively unexposed five-year-old Star Shield proved consistent in this kind of grade last season on the turf and may have been over the top by the time he made his all-weather debut at this track in October. Nevertheless, he caught the eye finishing well from the back of the pack to take sixth and could be open to serious improvement on this surface. He has a good draw to get cover and a late run may see him steal the prize.

EACH-WAY PLAY

(2.10 Kempton)

A quirky sprinter, Spoof isn't one I would usually look at as you can't trust him as far as you can throw him, but he may just be best first-time-out and that factor means he offers some value in this 5f event. The Charlie Hills-trained five-year-old won off a mark of 95 at Chester two years ago and has since run well in defeat on turf and on the all-weather. He isn't a prolific sort by any means but is now running off a rating of just 82 and is undoubtedly well handicapped if putting his best foot forward.
