The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Saturday afternoon
GOOD THING
Stag Horn(4.25 Ascot)
A extremely well-bred three-year-old colt (by Golden Horn out of a Galileo mare) who showed a good level of ability in three novice runs last year over inadequate trips. Stag Horn took a big leap forward on handicap debut when stepped up to 1m6f at Goodwood, running out a decisive two-and-a-half-length winner having made every yard of the running. He hit the line powerfully that day and not only did he mark himself down as a well-handicapped horse, but one who may improve for an even longer trip. Trainer Archie Watson has wisely stepped him up to 2m and he is expected to follow up off 6lb higher.
DARK HORSE
Threat (3.35 Newmarket)
This is a competitive renewal of the July Cup and I wouldn't put you off Royal Ascot winner Golden Horde, but I prefer the chance of Richard Hannon's Threat at the prices. I napped this Cheveley Park-owned runner in my column on Monday and although he is now a general 13-2 shot rather than the 10-1 initially available, I still think he represents some value. A top-level juvenile last year, Threat was clearly unfavoured by the step up to a mile on his reappearance in the St James's Palace at Royal Ascot but travelled well for much of the way and will appreciate the drop back to sprinting.
EYECATCHER
Eastern World (1.50 Newmarket)
I have the upmost respect for Finest Sound in this field. I strongly fancied him for the Britannia and he smashed the field, other than joker in the pack Khaloosy, who looks a real superstar. He's rated 7lb higher here, though, and I have to take him on with Charlie Appleby's Eastern World. This Dubawi colt is thoroughly unexposed after just three starts and looks really useful. Surely a mark of 90 underestimates him.
