The Punt Daily: best bets from Tom Collins on day three of Royal Ascot

EACH-WAY PLAY

Persuasion(6.10 Royal Ascot)

We saw a notable bias towards those drawn high on the first day of Royal Ascot and although forecast rain could level the playing field, at this stage I'd want to be staying with stands' side runners. Persuasion stands out in the Buckingham Palace Stakes after an impressive victory at Haydock, where he denied subsequent winner Dulas by half a length. The Charlie Hills-trained four-year-old remains open to further improvement, should be favoured by a decent gallop and is leniently treated off 96 given an RPR of 105 last time.

DARK HORSE

Taslima (3.40 Royal Ascot)

I don't think there's a clear standout in this year's edition of the Ribblesdale and therefore I want to take on those towards the front of the market. Taslima interests me after just two starts and there's a strong case that's she's been overlooked at a double-figure price for John and Thady Gosden. The well-bred daughter of Golden Horn did plenty wrong on debut last year and appeared to need a stiffer test than 1m2f when third on her seasonal reappearance. Subsequent Oaks runner-up Mystery Angel won that Newmarket contest, while the well-regarded Sea Karats finished second – the form looked strong. She finished her race off well and doesn't have too much to find with the protagonists granted natural improvement.
