The Punt Daily: Robbie Wilders' three each-way wagers on Saturday
EACH-WAY PLAY
Whatsnotoknow (2.45 Leopardstown)
Bookmakers are offering five and six places for this 3m handicap hurdle and Whatsnotoknow is the pick at a big price. The Mouse Morris-trained seven-year-old was travelling well in a 27-runner race over this course and distance in December but made a slight mistake two out and clipped heels with another horse to unseat rider Shane O'Callaghan. He was sent off a 7-2 favourite dropped markedly in trip at Thurles over 1m7½f on his next start and unsurprisingly didn't have the turn of foot to lay up with a few speedier horses, plugging on at the one pace for seventh. I suspect 3m on decent ground are his optimum conditions nowadays and providing Whatsnotoknow can avoid trouble this time he can go well off a low weight.
EACH-WAY PLAY
The Brimming Water (2.55 Sandown)
Generous each-way terms are there to be exploited once more in Sandown's 2m7½f handicap hurdle and the contest can go the way of The Brimming Water at juicy odds. The eye was drawn to Sam Drinkwater's runner in the home straight of a soft-ground 3m½f handicap hurdle at Haydock last time but he didn't see out the trip as well as expected, not finding loads off the bridle in third. A combination of a furlong shorter and quicker going can ensure The Brimming Water finishes his race better this time and I'm confident he's still on a decent mark, 7lb higher than for his victory over the classy Unexpected Party two starts back. He showed great stamina to reel in that rival (now 16lb higher after bolting up at Ascot next time) over 2m5½f with a 12-length gap to the third.
EACH-WAY PLAY
Janidil (3.15 Leopardstown)
Older, exposed horses dominate the Irish Gold Cup betting and I’d rather side with a younger improver at a price in Janidil. He was not disgraced on his first try at 3m over fences when fifth to Galvin over Christmas and can step forward again with that experience under his belt. If you take out Minella Indo (at least a stone better at Cheltenham than anywhere else) then Janidil is only 2lb off the top-rated in this line-up. Asterion Forlonge is the only other contender on the up but he has fallen or unseated in four of his last eight chases and is better going right-handed. Janidil is more straightforward and has slipped a little under the radar. If the eight line up he looks a good each-way bet.
