The Punt Acca: Robbie Wilders' three horse racing tips on Friday

First Officer (3.25 Nottingham)

The 1m6f Sandown race in which Rushford (first) beat Pons Aelius (second) and First Officer (fourth) last month is likely to be the key formline in this 2m handicap. Preference is for First Officer, who reopposes off 4lb and 2lb better terms with that pair for a length-and-a-half-defeat, and this brother to smart stayer Sizzling looks worth a try over two miles. Ryan Moore takes the ride for the first time and he has fewer miles on the clock than his market rivals.

Perotan(7.40 Cork)

The Aidan O'Brien-trained Perotan only made her debut in July but has plenty of star quality and sound claims of preserving her unbeaten record in the Give Thanks Stakes. The Churchill filly was the yard’s lesser-fancied runner when winning her maiden at Bellewstown in July, but scored in dominant fashion before stepping up in class to land the Listed Her Majesty’s Plate over 1m6f at Down Royal even easier three weeks later. This looks an ideal stepping stone to the Champion Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot in October, for which she is a best-priced 14-1 shot, and I expect her to have no issues with dropping a couple of furlongs in trip.

Bashosh(7.58 Newmarket)

We haven't seen much of this Roger Varian-trained four-year-old but he is bred to be smart (brother to the yard's former Group 1 winner Nezwah) and looks the one to beat in this mile handicap. Bashosh produced a career-best Racing Post Rating when unfancied on his belated return at Chelmsford in June, keeping on for second, and I'd expect a bit of improvement for the run. The handicapper has left him on the same mark of 89 and a first-time gelding operation could also eke out more progression.
