The Meydan Punt: Nick Driver with three selections on Super Saturday in Dubai

BANKER

Premier Star (1.10 Meydan)

In what looks a relatively weak edition of the Mahab Al Shimaal, Premier Star could be something special. This is his first run since joining the Doug Watson stable from the US in December, but on most form he should be good enough to win after the layoff. His best effort was a strong-staying third in the Amsterdam Stakes behind Yaupon, who went off favourite for the Breeders' Cup Sprint and wasn't disgraced in sixth. He's got a good draw in stall five and looks a banker as long as he's fully wound up.

GOOD THING

Al Suhail(2.20 Meydan)

Godolphin are finally ready to take the wraps off Al Suhail, who was last seen routing a Listed field at Newmarket in July after a poor run in the 2,000 Guineas. That Charlie Appleby has left the likes of Zakouski at home tells me that this one could be a bit better. Outside of Lord Glitters, who has had two very hard races at the Carnival, his opposition looks sub-par and the fresher horse should prevail with Appleby likely to have him spot on.

EYECATCHER

Thegreatcollection (2.55 Meydan)

Thegreatcollection almost gave us a winner in round two of the Al Maktoum Challenge but he just couldn't get to Salute The Soldier, who enjoyed the perfect trip round. He was bearing down on his conqueror last time, so the extra half a furlong here will be in his favour against similar opposition. Stall ten shouldn't be an issue for a drop-out horse and with another hot pace likely, the selection should have a big chance closing down the outside once again.
