Gossamer Wings

This Scat Daddy filly just failed to deny the game winner Signora Cabello in the dying strides of the Queen Mary, but the way Gossamer Wings tanked through much of the contest on the bridle suggests she could be top class. She's getting better with racing and when two-year-olds from this yard are on an upward curve they often go right to the top.

Cape Byron
Roger Varian
13th, Ascot, June 20
Although seven lengths adrift at the finish, he was still in contention approaching the final furlong having been in the firing line throughout in the Royal Hunt Cup. The way he travelled suggests he will be more effective over a furlong shorter. Cape Byron won over Ascot’s stiff straight mile in September but the win was in a small field in a tactical race. In this fiercely contested 30-runner handicap he faded towards the end giving the impression of wanting a sharper test.

John Gosden

This three-year-old colt has improved his Racing Post Rating each time he has run and stayed on strongly at the finish in the Britannia. He was dropping back from 1m2f, having won previously at Lingfield and gave the impression he wants a bit further than a mile. There is a valuable three-year-old 1m2f handicap at Newmarket’s July Cup meeting next month and that could be his next target.
