Paul Kealy provides his Tote Placepot perm for York
With three juvenile races and a four-runner King George, the Ascot Placepot makes little appeal, so it’s off to York, where it will be hard but there is least plenty of form to go on.
The one exception is the opening novice (12.20), but has run well both starts and sets a reasonable standard, while , a half-brother to several useful winners, gets the vote from the unraced bunch.
In the next (12.55), Clareybluemay make up for a disappointing sixth in first-time blinkers. He possibly went a bit too fast, but was drawn on the wrong side anyway and did much the best of those who raced on the far side.
With the stalls on the far side this time, stall one might just prove an advantage now.
We’d better add another as there only seven runners, and is the choice. He’s a bit better than his third of five on his turf debut last time as he was bumped at the start and he’s well worth giving another chance.
In leg three (1.30) gets another drop in trip having shaped as though he would be more involved in the finish than he was over a mile here last week.
He’s not prolific, but is running into form and should go well again, while my other two in a hard race are , who is in good form and , who is inconsistent but has won here and is well handicapped if in the right mood.
William Haggas’s is certainly the one to beat in leg four (2.05), having pulled well clear with the runner-up when off the mark at Salisbury last time.
I will take the chance by banking on her in a seven-runner race and will do the same with form horse Elarqamin the York Stakes (2.40).
That leaves a competitive nine-runner handicap to finish (3.15), although I am keen on the chances of .
It’s worth putting another in, though, and dual course winner , who showed improved form after a wind operation at Thirsk last month, is the one who gets the vote.
