Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for Thursday's five meetings
Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team
Nottingham
1.35: Strongbowe
The most obvious answer is Strongbowe, who has only recently been reinvented as a sprinter but was firmly in command in the closing stages at Thirsk nine days ago and is slightly ahead of the handicapper under a penalty here. Triggered and Gilt Edge also come here after last-time-out wins but the main danger to the selection could be Coase, who started off for David O'Meara with two encouraging runs this month and ought to be at concert pitch now.
Chris Wilson
Newcastle
3.10: Crownthorpe
The Richard Fahey-trained Crownthorpe likes it here and returned to form when second at Nottingham last time out. He is the selection ahead of stablemate Hartswood, who ran well at York two starts ago and didn't get the breaks at Redcar next time. Orbaan and Eagleway are others who could go well in an open race.

Newmarket
2.25: Doctor Parnassus
Glencora is on a roll and there's more to come from her at 1m4f+. She is not passed over lightly but she faces a strong batch of three-year-olds. Spirit Mixer is about to be raised 3lb for his latest performance but Doctor Parnassus also looks well handicapped judged on his display at the York Dante meeting and, with clear potential still, David O'Meara's charge gets the vote. Handsome is another major player and he's second on the list.
Richard Austen
Leicester
8.45: Romulan Prince
Athers, Helluvaboy and Sundayinmay have something to recommend them but this may rest between the two recent winners. Canoodled is 4lb well in after her facile success at Lingfield but this is a deeper race on faster ground and she may prove vulnerable to Romulan Prince. The Richard Hughes-trained three-year-old picked up well to score at Chelmsford last week and he can make it 2-2 in handicaps.
Paul Smith
Hamilton
9.00: Langholm
There could be more to come from Langholm as a sprinter based on his dominant display at Carlisle recently so he's selected to make light of a 5lb penalty. Stronsay is another who arrives on the back of a recent win but Alsvinder, who has a fine record here, is weighted to turn the tables with him on course form a couple of weeks back and is put up as the main threat. Toolmaker is also of interest on his first outing for Tristan Davidson.
