Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's four meetings
Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team
Chelmsford
7.50: Hathlool
The assessor might have let Hathlool in lightly for this handicap debut given that he beat the reopposing Toromona by just over two lengths in a Newcastle novice 17 days ago yet receives 5lb from Charlie Appleby's representative this time. Fellow three-year-old Jenson Benson is on the up and rates a danger at the foot of the weights. Balgair did it nicely enough over C&D last time and is also respected along with Pledge Of Honour.
Andrew Sheret
Lingfield
2.17: Dorking Lad
Lots of these have the potential to play a part, but Dorking Lad showed enough when runner-up at Fontwell (form has been franked) to suggest he can go one better now, especially with the fitting of blinkers looking a big plus. Animal is feared most on the back of his C&D second, although fencing newcomers Confirmation Bias, Seven No Trumps and Star Academy all figure high on the shortlist too.
Peter Entwistle
Taunton
3.25: Norley
It's hard to look beyond the unpenalised Norley, who is due to be 12lb higher in future handicaps having bolted up at Wincanton last Thursday. It's a relatively warm race for the grade, however, with several in-form contenders, and Independence is second choice with the step up in trip a possible plus on his handicap hurdle debut. Poet's Reflection is one of a few others who could go well.
Ben Hutton
Thurles
2.40: Turkestan
This looks a good opportunity for Turkestan to go one better after three seconds during the summer. He has had a recent Flat run and may see off a likely challenge from Clifton Warrior a recruit to a top stable. Doyen Rose shaped well on her debut and Amazing Amy represents a trainer who can be relied on to have her ready first time.
