You Never Can Tell (3.45 Newcastle, nap)

Course-and-distance winner who has been working well at home in cheekpieces that he wears for the first time today. Richard Spencer has his team well forward for the spring.

North: Richard Young

Claire Underwood (2.00 Newcastle, nap)

Steadily progressive sort who showed a good attitude to win on first visit to this track when upped to this trip last time. Fancied to follow up from 2lb higher mark.

Others to follow
Chelmsford: 5.15 Key To Power, 6.45 Lucky Deal, 7.15 Matterhorn, 7.45 Zorawar, 8.15 Mendeleev.

Lambourn: James Burn

Dans Le Vent (3.25 Doncaster, nap)

Six-year-old has some smart form on his CV, should not mind the quick ground and has dropped to an appealing mark, while going left-handed could be another plus.

Others to follow
Chelmsford: 7.15 Battered.
Doncaster: 2.15 What's Occurring, 2.50 Prabeni, 4.00 Enjoy Responsibly, 5.00 Welsh Saint.
Ludlow: 1.50 I'm A Believer, 2.25 Azzerti, 5.10 Regulation.
Newcastle 3.10 Breathless Times, 3.45 Quiet Endeavour.
Wolverhampton 6.00 Geordielad.

West Country: Tim Mitchell

Le Ligerien (1.50 Ludlow, nap)

Shaped with plenty of promise on all three starts over hurdles and this looks a good opportunity to open his account at a track that should suit.

Others to follow
Doncaster: 4.00 Bally Longford, 4.30 Wonderful Charm.
Ludlow: 3.35 Captain Buck's, 4.40 Truckers Tangle, 5.10 Pilansberg.

Racing Post Ratings: Steve Mason

Gold Chain (3.25 Doncaster, nap)

Has won two out of four for current yard, but still nicely treated on the pick of her old form and can win again in a race that looks likely to be run to suit.

Topspeed: Dave Edwards

Breathless Times (3.10 Newcastle)

Found to be suffering from an irregular heartbeat when favourite but last of six at Lingfield in December and has to be given another chance.

Longshot: Olly Eden

Special Acceptance (5.10 Ludlow)

Remains a maiden after six starts but has solid bumper and novice form to his name. Latest effort can be forgiven on ground likely too soft and he could be on a fair mark returning to better ground over a more adequate trip.

Ireland: Tony O'Hehir

Whatucallher (3.50 Punchestown)

Placed on all of her three starts over hurdles, the five-year-old steps up to 2m6f for the first time. Can get off the mark having finished well when second last time.
