Hong Kong racing tips: pool betting expertise for Sha Tin on Sunday
It may prove crucial to be on weather watch on Sunday to determine whether the Sha Tin meeting proceeds.
A typhoon is moving across the South China Sea from the Philippines towards the Pearl River Delta. At this stage, it is expected to move within 100 miles of Hong Kong on Sunday morning, local time.
If there is a typhoon 8 (T8), typhoon 9 (T9) or typhoon 10 (T10) warning on Sunday morning, the meeting cannot go ahead as the city is essentially on lockdown.
Even if the city avoids the worst of the typhoon, rain could play havoc on the meeting, which takes place on the turf and dirt at Sha Tin.
The turf track handles rain well and, as long as there isn’t rain during the meeting, it should remain a fair surface.
The dirt, though, is a lottery that plays differently from meeting to meeting; throw in any rain and it could prove potentially problematic.
Without having seen the earlier races, it might be worth standing out the returning Ugly Warrior in the 9.05.
The Me Tsui-trained Ugly Warrior is a prolific winner over 1200 metres on the Sha Tin dirt, but has been out of sorts this season after a trip to Seoul for the Korea Sprint in September.
Having had four months off, it wouldn’t surprise to see him return to form. He’s worth chancing.
The other legs are wide open but, as is generally the case over this last month of the season, expect Joao Moreira and Zac Purton to come to the fore.
They have strong books, although Moreira’s hand looks more prominent than Purton’s at this particular meeting.
