Starspangledbanner's fabulous 2021 season continued when he was presented with a third top-level winner as State Of Rest came to the fore for Joseph O'Brien in the Saratoga Derby.

Coolmore's star sprinter is proving himself even more versatile as a sire despite well-documented fertility issues earlier in his career, having already produced early Group winning juveniles Castle Star and Hermana Estrella among a number of stakes performers.

State Of Rest, a Fairyhouse maiden winner who was third in the Champagne Stakes and on his comeback in a Listed event at the Curragh, was also a source of delight for Dermot Cantillon and Meta Osborne's Tinnakill House Stud in County Laois as he joined a list of its high achievers headed by Alexander Goldrun, Red Evie and Casamento.

Tinakill bought State Of Rest's grand-dam Monaassabaat aged 16 from the Goffs November Mare Sale back in 2007 for €42,000.

A Listed-winning daughter of Zilzal bred by the late Maktoum Al Maktoum, she went on to produce the smart all-weather specialist Prince Alzain as well as State Of Rest's dam, the unraced Repose (by Quiet American).

State Of Rest is Repose's second foal, and the first to have raced. He was bought for £45,000 as a pinhook with O'Brien and agent Mouse O'Ryan finding him for 60,000gns a year later at Tattersalls Book 2.

Interestingly Richard Ryan, who acts for State Of Rest's owner Teme Valley, bought his Australia half-sister named Tranquil Lady for £160,000 at last year's Goffs Orby. She is also registered in training with O'Brien and holds several entries later this week.
