Seabhac off the mark as Everwin powers to Lyon-Parilly success
The son of Scat Daddy stands at the late Larissa Kneip's Haras de Saint Arnoult
Seabhac became the latest first-season sire to get off the mark when his Everwin powered to a three-and-a-half length win in a Lyon-Parilly maiden on Monday.
Everwin, who ran in the silks of owner-breeder Anton Doerner for trainer Ludovic Gadbin, was making his debut in the Prix des Iris and came home clear of fellow debutant Spirit Grey, a son of Charm Spirit.
The colt is out of the Kodiac mare Quatuor, a dual winner for Tom Dascombe and a granddaughter of the Zafonic mare Maybe Forever, the winner of the Prix de Saint-Georges and a half-sister to Sussex Stakes and Prix de la Foret scorer Court Masterpiece.
Everwin is the third winner for his 11-year-old dam after Eversweet (by Sommerabend) and Everstorm (Stormy River).
His sire Seabhac retired to Haras de Saint Arnoult for the 2019 breeding season at a fee of €5,000.
The son of Scat Daddy was bred by Three Chimneys Farm and is the first foal out of the Curlin mare Curlin Hawk, a half-sister to champion and Grade 1 sire Afleet Alex. He sold to Donegal Racing for $170,000 from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in 2016.
Seabhac ran just three times for Todd Pletcher, including when winning the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes from subsequent Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf third Voting Control and Grade 2 scorer Maraud.
The seven-year-old stood this year for €4,000 alongside Group 2 winner Elarqam, a son of Frankel and champion filly Attraction, Sommerabend, Stormy River and Dark Angel's Group 3-winning sprinter Yafta.
Larissa Kneip, the Normandy stud's well-known and multi-talented owner, sadly died earlier this month aged 51.
