Rumble Inthejungle emulates his flying freshman sire's Molecomb success

Rumble Inthejungle put the flourish on the outstanding start made by freshman Bungle Inthejungle by emulating his sire's victory in the Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday – in decisive fashion, too.

The colt, trained by Richard Spencer for Rebel Racing, had won a Salisbury novice stakes on debut in May and finished a creditable fourth behind Shang Shang Shang in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

On his third start in the Molecomb he demolished his rivals, taking up the running two furlongs from home and easing to a two-and-a-half-length success over Life Of Riley, who in turn was a neck in front of Windsor Castle Stakes winner Soldier's Call.

The second and third both hail from the first more expensively bred crop by Whitsbury Manor Stud's exciting young stallion Showcasing.

Rumble Inthejungle is one of 16 scorers to have emerged from Bungle Inthejungle's debut crop and is the first Group winner but second stakes winner among them, with daughter Sopran Artemide having taken the Listed Premio Vittorio Crespi at Milan.

Bungle Inthejungle, a son of Exceed And Excel who won the Cornwallis Stakes as well as the Molecomb at two, stood at Maurice Burns' Rathasker Stud in County Kildare at a fee of €5,000 this year but is earning the right to a price increase for the 2019 breeding season.

Rumble Inthejungle was bred by Patrick Gleeson and is the third foal and third winner out of the unraced Dark Angel mare Guana, who was also responsible for last year's Superlative Stakes third and Dewhurst sixth Great Prospector (by Elzaam).

Guana is out of another unraced mare in Guana Bay, a daughter of Cadeaux Genereux who also produced Enrika's Gift, the Listed-placed dam of Australian Listed winner Happy Patrick, and Layla Jamil, the mother of Superlative Stakes winner and National Stakes and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf third Birchwood.

Further back it is the family of two other high-class and speedy two-year-old talents in Prince Sabo, winner of the Flying Childers in 1984, and Abou Zouz, who landed the Gimcrack Stakes in 1996.

Guana was covered by Twilight Son in 2017 and by Bated Breath this year.

She is the second Dark Angel mare in a row to produce a winner of the Molecomb Stakes, with victory last year going to Havana Grey – by Havana Gold out of the Yeomanstown Stud superstar sire's daughter Blanc De Chine. That is no mean feat considering Dark Angel's oldest daughters are only nine years old.

Rumble Inthejungle was bought by Rebel Racing with Bobby O'Ryan for £70,000 at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale last year.
