New dates but same quality as show rolls on to the Goffs UK Summer Sale

Racing Post Bloodstock has pinpointed a trio of bright young prospects on offer among a wealth of future jumping talent at the Goffs UK Summer Store Sale. The horses will go under the hammer in Tuesday's middle leg of the three-day event and kick off a month's worth of National Hunt auctions as part of a revised and collaborative calendar.

Monday's session begins at 3pm in Doncaster with the supplemented Goffs Land Rover & Tattersalls Ireland Derby and May Sale store, with a final batch of stores, pointers and horses in training offered on Wednesday.

Lot 7(3yo Getaway gelding ex This Is Bollyduff)

Distillery Stud in Dumfriesshire, which has grown in prominence in the last few years, offers this chestnut first foal out of an unraced Presenting mare.

How did you come about getting the horse?

Richard Robinson, Distillery Stud: He was bought as a foal at the Tattersalls Ireland Fairyhouse November Sale. I’m a big fan of Getaway and this horse was very much on my list when I went to the sale but you’re always surprised when you manage to buy one that actually is!

What are his main appeals on pedigree?

He’s got a very solid and deep pedigree featuring the likes of Thisthatandtother, Carlingford Lough and Birchdale. He’s the first foal out of a Presenting mare and he was accepted for all three store sales.

What is he like as an individual?

As an individual, he is a gorgeous horse. He’s 16’2, very correct with good movement and a great attitude. I think he’s actually the nicest three-year-old store that I’ve taken to the sales so far.

What sort of horse do you think he will make up into?

The world’s his oyster - he has the size, scope and quality to go far.

How are you feeling as a vendor coming into the sale?

As a vendor, I have to say I’m feeling apprehensive. But we’ve got some quality horses to sell so hopefully the horses are found to be popular and manage to sell themselves.

Have you any other horses at this, or future sales, that we should know about?

I’m happy with the others we’re taking to this sale. The Soldier Of Fortune gelding (204) is very nice as is the filly by the same sire (145); she could be a classy race filly. There’s an Ocovango sister (21) to our good bumper mare Misty Whisky as well as Air Horse One and a Camelot gelding (206). He’s a really nice individual with great attitude and movement.

The page of this entrant includes a mention of ill-fated 1986 Champion Chase hero Buck House and he arrives from Richard Frisby's famed Glenwood Stud in County Kilkenny.

How did you come about getting the horse?

JJ Frisby, Glenwood Stud: We purchased him as a yearling in the Goffs UK January Mixed Sale from Sally and Richard Aston of Goldford Stud.

What are his main appeals on pedigree?

He’s by a proven Grade 1 stallion in Martaline out of a Grade 2-winning King’s Theatre mare Dare To Doubt, who has produced a Listed bumper winner in Yukon Lil.

What is he like as an individual?

He’s a good-looking individual with great movement. He has a kind temperament and is very laid-back to deal with.

What sort of horse do you think he will make up into?

Hopefully he can make into a high-class chaser some day in the future.

How are you feeling as a vendor coming into the sale?

I am looking forward to getting back to the sales rings. The breeze-up sales have been good so far and hopefully the trend will continue into the store trade.

Have you any other horses at this, or future sales, that we should know about?

I am looking forward to selling a Walk In The Park ex Ma Furie (lot 138 in the Land Rover Sale) and we have a Kayf Tara ex Triptoshan (lot 439 in the Derby Sale). They look to be two exciting prospects.

Gold Cup-winning rider Mark Dwyer is now a powerhouse consignor from his Oaks Farm Stables in North Yorkshire and has this well-related individual among 15 to sell across the first two days.

How did you come about getting the horse?

Mark Dwyer, Oaks Farm Stables: I bought him as a foal at Fairyhouse.

What are his main appeals on pedigree? He's the first foal of a Flemensfirth mare and it has become quite a happening family as the mare is a half-sister to Chantry House, who won twice last season and was third in the Supreme at Cheltenham for JP McManus.

What is he like as an individual?

I've had him since I bought him and he's been very straightforward, we've had him on the long reins and he's a horse who would be ready to get on with.

What sort of horse do you think he will make up into?

I'd like to think he'd be one who you could have ready for four-year-old bumpers and further down the line could make up into a two-mile chaser.

How are you feeling as a vendor coming into the sale?

Apprehensive would be one word to describe it! We're living in very strange times and if people can't come to the sales, that's obviously a worry. The point-to-point guys had a shortened season last season and, while I'm sure some will replenish their stock, we rely on them to be big buyers at these sales.

Have you any other horses at this, or future sales, that we should know about?

I've ended up having a few of my Derby and Land Rover horses going into the supplementary sale on Monday. There’s a Martaline (615) who is a full-brother to a Grade 1 Cheltenham winner (Albert Bartlett hero Very Wood) and a nice No Risk At All (654) from a good family.
