Markswoman hits the target for first-season sire Recoletos
Filly was bred by Earl la Ferme d'Auge and is a graduate of Osarus
Haras du Quesnay's Recoletos was handed the first winner of his stallion career through his daughter Markswoman in the opening seven-furlong maiden at Compiegne on Tuesday.
The Yann Barberot-trained filly was one of six horses to have appeared for Recoletos so far, having finished fifth at Craon last month, and scored by three-quarters of a length under Clement Guitraud.
Bred by Earl la Ferme d'Auge, Markswoman had been bought by Barberot for €17,000 from Hyde Park Stud at this year's Osarus breeze-up sale at La Teste.
Recoletos has a reasonable first crop to get him underway, having been available for €4,000 this year.
The son of Whipper, bred and owned by Darpat France, was third in the 2017 Prix du Jockey Club and won both the Prix d'Ispahan and the Prix du Moulin in a fine career with Carlos Laffon-Parias.
