'It's extra special' - homebred Coroebus a delight for Darley in 2,000 Guineas

Godolphin's domination of the Flat season looks set to continue, with the breeding arm of Sheikh Mohammed's global operation providing yet another homebred hero in Qipco 2,000 Guineas winner Coroebus.

The son of Darley's flagship record-breaking sire Dubawi has the blue blood of Godolphin coursing through his veins.

He is a grandson of Godolphin's blue hen Eastern Joy, being the second foal out of a Group 3-winning Teofilo half-sister to dual Dubai World Cup hero Thunder Snow, May Hill Stakes scorer Ihtimal and the Listed-winning Group 1-placed Always Smile among five black type performers.

Godolphin homebreds have lit up global Flat racing in recent years, and they include last year's Derby and King George hero Adayar, Breeders' Cup Turf scorer Yibir, Breeders' Cup Mile winner Space Blues and decorated juvenile Pinatubo, not to mention Natalma Stakes victress, and 1,000 Guineas contender, Wild Beauty.

Sam Bullard, Darley's director of stallions, said: "When the whole team is involved it's extra special, and of course his dam is by Teofilo so we go back a long way with him. What a great performance it was though."

Coroebus is the third winner of the colts' Classic at Newmarket for Dubawi who, at the age of 20, has enjoyed record-breaking success with 49 top-level winners to date and a host of exciting young stallion sons such as Darley's Night Of Thunder (the 2014 2,000 Guineas hero), Too Darn Hot, Ghaiyyath and Ballylinch Stud resident New Bay.

Bullard said: "Dubawi is 20 now and he's the best stallion who has ever stood in Britain by quite a long way. To have the horse by our own and conceived by our own, born on one of the farms and raised on our farms and trained by Charlie [Appleby] is what it's all about."

The result was also a fine one for Kildangan Stud resident Teofilo as Coroebus is the second Classic winner as a broodmare sire for the former champion juvenile after Mac Swiney in last year's Irish 2,000 Guineas.

Leading home a one-two ahead of last season's champion juvenile Native Trail, there is a sense of immense strength in depth for the team as the big guns emerge from their winter break, including the likes of Adayar.

Bullard added: "I think Charlie's going to bring him [Adayar] out in the next four or five weeks and he's very well."
