Gun Runner fee soars following stunning results from his two-year-olds
2017 Horse of the Year seems to be passing on his excellence to progeny
Based on an extraordinarily strong launch as a freshman sire, Three Chimneys Farm's Gun Runner will stand for $125,000 for the 2022 breeding season, up from $50,000 this year.
Gun Runner, a son of Candy Ride and the 2017 Horse of the Year, has sired five black-type stakes winners so far, including undefeated multiple Grade 1 winner Echo Zulu, who won the Spinaway and Frizette Stakes.
He sired another Grade 1 winner in Hopeful Stakes winner Gunite, as well as Grade 2 winners Pappacap and Wicked Halo.
The extraordinary exploits of his progeny have made Gun Runner the leading North American sire for his freshman sire class and also the leading sire of two-year-olds.
He is the leading sire of his class by stakes winners, Graded stakes winners, and Grade 1 winners. Up to and including October 20, he is the ninth-leading North American sire by yearling average (including only sires with three or more sold), with 46 yearlings sold averaging $325,087.
His top seller was a colt out of Time To Tap, who sold for $975,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
