Fasig-Tipton catalogues 185 for Gulfstream Sale next month
Sale of selected two-year-olds in training to be held on March 27
Fasig-Tipton has cataloged 185 entries for the Gulfstream Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training, to be held on March 27 in the Gulfstream Park walking ring. The sale will begin at 2pm EST.
The under-tack show is scheduled for March 25, beginning at 9am.
The number entered in the sale represents a 17 per cent increase over the 158 head in last year's catalogue, which was increased to 166 with the addition of eight supplemental entries. This is the second year the auction will be positioned on the calendar during the week leading up to the Grade 1 Xpressbet.com Florida Derby scheduled for April 1.
Topped by a Medgalia D'Oro filly and an Into Mischief colt that sold for $1.2 million each, the 2018 edition posted the second-highest average and median in sale history.
"2019 marks our fifth year at Gulfstream Park, and quality results on the racetrack and in the sales ring have generated our strongest catalogue to date," said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. "This year's main catalogue is 17 per cent larger than last year's, and the depth of quality is outstanding."
Featured on the front cover of this year's catalogue are ten of the sale's recent Graded stakes-winning graduates, including Grade 1 winners Audible, Bellafina, Dream Tree, and Fourstar Crook, as well as current Grade 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve prospects Instagrand and Maximus Mischief. The catalogue's back cover lists major races won by sale grads since Fasig-Tipton's first auction at Gulfstream in 2015.
"The racetrack success of Gulfstream sales graduates has been highly impressive," said Browning. "In just a short time, sales graduates have claimed the sport's biggest races from coast-to-coast, including the Kentucky Derby and Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile.
"Interestingly enough, sales grads have also captured Gulfstream's Florida Derby twice, the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks and the Grade 2 Holy Bull Stakes - races won over the very same dirt surface in which they breezed during our sale's under-tack shows."
Fasig-Tipton will also offer a supplemental catalogue once again this year, with supplemental entries accepted on an approval basis.
The catalog is now available online and will also be available via the Equineline sales cataloueg app. Print catalogues will be available from Fasig-Tipton offices from Friday.
