City Of Light to begin stud career at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky

Multiple Grade 1 winner City Of Light will join his sire, Quality Road, at Will Farish's Lane's End Farm upon the conclusion of his racing career.

Trained by Michael McCarthy and owned by Mr and Mrs William Warren jnr, City Of Light captured the 7f Grade 1 Malibu Stakes on his first stakes start in December, when he wired the field to win by two lengths. The bay colt then promptly annexed another score at the highest level in the Triple Bend Stakes over the same distance in March.

City Of Light continued his stakes-winning streak with a rallying victory in the 1m1f Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap in April and was most recently third in the Grade 1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita Stakes in May.

"City Of Light is an unbelievable physical," McCarthy said. "With the kind of tactical speed that wins races in America, he has all of the attributes of a successful stallion."

Sold by Lane's End for $710,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, City Of Light was bred in Kentucky by Ann Marie Farm. City Of Light's speed can also be traced back to his dam's side. He is out of the Dehere mare Paris Notion, a closely related half sibling to Grade 1 winner Fabulously Fast, both out of Grade 1 winner Fabulous Notion.

"City Of Light is a very fast, sound, consistent horse," Bill Farish said. "He has continued to run at the highest level against top competition with Graded stakes victories ranging from seven furlongs to one and one eighth miles. His sire and brilliance, coupled with his looks, makes him a very exciting prospect."

City Of Light is scheduled to make his next start in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes at Saratoga later in August. A stud fee will be announced upon his retirement.
