Big shoes to fill for 55,000gns half-sister to Grand National legend Tiger Roll
Tina Rau delighted to get the filly by Exceed And Excel out of Swiss Roll
A half-sister to Tiger Roll will face a tough task living up to her relations after being bought for 55,000gns by bloodstock agent Tina Rau on the opening day of Book 2 of the October Yearling Sale at Tattersalls on Monday.
By Exceed And Excel, the chestnut filly is out of Swiss Roll, whose four winners' successes stretch from Aintree to Meydan.
She produced two-time Grand National hero Tiger Roll, 2013 Lonsdale Cup winner and Irish St Leger runner-up Ahzeemah, and Austrian School, who finished third in this season's Henry II Stakes for Mark Johnston, who filled the role of underbidder when the filly took her turn in the ring.
Offered by The Castlebridge Consignment, the filly has shown signs of being more precocious than her illustrious half-brother and is due to be trained by Marcus Munch, an ex-footballer who oversees a select group of horses in Chantilly.
"She's from an interesting family but she might end up being a bit confused about what distance she should be running over," said Rau.
"She was bought for a breeder. Plan A would be she gets black type for herself, but if that doesn't come off she'll be a really nice filly to breed from."
She added: "I didn't think she'd fit into my budget so I was very pleased, and even more so after her wind test because she was really quick."
