A 19th top-flight winner for Frankel as Wild Beauty blooms at Woodbine

Frankel sired his 19th Group/Grade 1 winner on Sunday when Godolphin homebred Wild Beauty put in a dominant display in the Natalma Stakes at Woodbine.

The Charlie Appleby-trained two-year-old became Frankel's first top-flight winner in North America, a result that means the Banstead Manor Stud resident has sired elite winners in eight different countries, namely Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan and the UAE.

The filly's two-and-a-quarter length success over Bobby Flay's homebred Pizza Bianca, a daughter of Fastnet Rock, also saw Frankel supply his seventh Group/Grade 1 winner in 2021, joining major talents Adayar, Alpinista, Converge, Hungry Heart, Hurricane Lane and Snow Lantern.

With domestic progeny prize-money earnings of £4,594,390, Frankel is well on course to dethrone the great Galileo, who is over £1m in arrears, and claim his first British and Irish sires' championship.

Wild Beauty also paid a handsome compliment to another of Frankel's two-year-old fillies, having finished second to Cheveley Park Stud's homebred Inspiral in the Listed Star Stakes in July. Inspiral has since bolted up in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes.

Wild Beauty is a fourth-generation homebred whose extended family entered the Darley fold when Sheikh Mohammed's Aston Upthorpe Stud signed for Celtic Assembly at $175,000 at Keeneland in 1982.

The daughter of Secretariat was an important purchase for Sheikh Mohammed as she went on to breed Cherokee Rose, who won the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup and Prix Maurice de Gheest and in turn produced Moyesii, the dam of Godolphin's homebred St Leger hero Mastery and his Gran Criterium-winning half-brother Kirklees.

Another of Moyesii's offspring was Magic Tree, who bred Hamdan Al Maktoum's Coral-Eclipse winner Mukhadram.

Hint Of Spring was also among the six winners Cherokee Rose produced, and in turn she bred Wild Beauty's dam Tulips when mated with the mighty Pivotal. Tulips, who won the Listed Prix Ceres during her time on the track, produced a full-brother to Wild Beauty earlier this year.

Wild Beauty becomes the fourth Group/Grade 1 winner bred on the Frankel - Pivotal cross, joining Cracksman, Hungry Heart and Veracious. Cheveley Park Stud's stalwart sire, who retired from covering duty at the age of 28 earlier this year, is now the broodmare sire of 25 elite-level winners. Six of those have come when Pivotal's daughters have been mated with Frankel's sire Galileo.

There was more Grade 1 homebred success for Godolphin later on the Woodbine card when Albahr struck in the Summer Stakes. The gelded two-year-old moved his sire Dubawi on to 45 Group/Grade 1 winners and also gave Godolphin their 350th victory at the highest level.

Albahr is the fourth foal out of Falls Of Lora and is the second elite scorer the Group 3-winning daughter of Street Cry has bred, as her first foal, Cascadian, won the Doncaster Mile at Randwick earlier this year.

Falls Of Lora produced a New Approach brother to Cascadian last year and has a filly foal from the debut crop of Too Darn Hot on the ground. The dam is one of five black-type performers out of Firth Of Lorne, making her a sibling to Superlative Stakes scorer Master Of The Seas and the Listed winners Etive and Latharnach.

The two-year-old's success on Sunday capped a productive weekend for Godolphin's homebreds in North America as the seven-year-old Walton Street, a son of Cape Cross, ran away with Saturday's Pattison Canadian International, while the enigmatic Yibir came from last to first to land the Jockey Club Derby Invitational at Belmont Park.
