Goffs UK announces new NH two-year-old session at Doncaster August Sale
Session will be held in support of the BHA and TBA’s new NH junior hurdle races
Goffs UK has announced this year's August Sale will feature a new National Hunt two-year-old session as part of the company's support of the BHA and TBA’s new NH junior hurdle races, contests that will take part in the autumn.
The NH two-year-old session at Doncaster's August Sale will see all horses offered with pre-sale veterinary certificates with nominations open for the new section. The NH junior hurdle races are open to three-year-olds from October to December and four-year-olds from January to April.
Runners must not have taken part in any race before October 1, have not run in a Flat race, or three previous hurdle races. Junior hurdlers will still be able to run in novice hurdles during the following jump season, although a maximum of four runs in Junior Hurdles will be allowed.
Goffs UK managing director Tim Kent said: "It’s fantastic to see this new programme initiated by the BHA and TBA, it has been very well received by the industry and as such, we are pleased to support it by offering a dedicated session of National Hunt two-year-olds in our August Sale.
"In addition, we also have the annual Yorton Sale on September 8 at Yorton Farm which offers around 30 two-year-olds each year so we now have two sales on our annual calendar that offer horses that would be well suited to target the new National Hunt junior hurdle Races programme."
TBA board member Bryan Mayoh added: "The introduction of National Hunt junior hurdle races in the 2022/23 season could be a long-term game changer for British jump racing and breeding. We have also received a lot of positive feedback from throughout the industry regarding the new initiative so it’s great to see Goffs UK supporting it by adding this new two-year-old session to their August Sale.
"Ideally, potential candidates for NH junior hurdles will be broken, schooled and pre-trained as two-year-olds, before going into full training as three-year-olds."
The August Sale takes place from August 2-3.
