Meet the Paralympic hero and renowned tenor who's now thriving as a breeder
Tom Peacock speaks to Dr Ronan Tynan, a breeder with many talents
We all hope to gain recognition for something that we’ve achieved in our lives. With Dr Ronan Tynan, it’s more a case of which one you start with.
There’s overcoming a lower-limb disability from birth to even ride a point-to-point winner; recovering from the loss of his legs in a motoring accident to quickly win gold medals in long jump, discus and shot put across the 1984 and 1988 Paralympics; becoming an internationally renowned tenor who has sung anthems in packed American sports stadiums, and for names ranging from boxing wonder woman Katie Taylor to President George H.W. Bush; and being a producer of prize showjumpers and a qualified doctor, who most recently has been helping out with the vaccine roll-out in Ireland.
As he chats from the kitchen of his farm near Johnstown, County Kilkenny, there’s another subject that he is far more enthusiastic talking about: racehorses, and one in particular.
